I have hypertension!

Wait...

How is that possible? I eat nothing but meat and cheese and eggs and coffee. I weigh a svelte (and solidly packed) 128 kgs. My weight, height, age, and collar measurement are exactly the same as Jackie Gleason in the first season as The Honeymooners!

Um...

So, there you are. Pyat has entered early middle age.

Middle age, woohoo!

When do you get a hot new sports car and start dressing like a man half your age?

Wait...what?

Aren't you and I about the same age?

I'm too young to be middle age, and so should you be.

Noooooooooooo!

Now I'M off to get a hot new sports car and start dress half my age!

You're going to dress like an 18 year old man? :)

Pretty much! Also, more aerobic exercise (I already work out a fair bit, but it's all stationart stuff), less protein, fewer dark greens...

Fewer dark greens? Why?

The hypertension diagnosis came from my nephrologist, who is treating me for recurring kidney stones. Checking online, I see the advice against spinach (and protein) was more in aid of kidney stones than hypertension.

Considering all my curves, I wouldn't be a very attractive young man, but yes.

I think I'd look smashing in a black pinstripe and a crisp burgundy shirt and tie combo.

I've had hypertension (and been on meds) since the early 90s. Welcome to the club (kind of a crappy one at that.)

are they planning on putting you on any medication to manage it or do you think this is situation related (as in, stress, health, diet?)

it's sucky, but high blood pressure is probably one of the easier things to treat so it's certainly not the dire-est thing to be diagnosed with.

Now I'm just curious and will have to do some cross-dressing to see how I look.

You aren't middle aged until undergraduates start habitually addressing you as professor.

Last time I got it checked, I had abnormally low blood pressure. Probably because I bleed so much.

Dodge! Jink! Roll!

Oh, it got you....

Kinda snuck up on you, did it? Never fear, they have ways of fixing that.

Me, I've been on medication for such since I was roundabout 22, much to the great irritation of several doctors o' mine. They ran tons of tests, but it doesn't seem to be food or weight related in my case. I... just have high blood pressure. With any luck yours shall not be so intransigent and simply give up after a smidge of exercise.

If the darn thing weren't 400 bucks, I'd try this out. http://www.aolhealth.com/conditions/squeezing-your-way-to-lower-blood-pressure

I'm reading about reducing kidney stones and it says stuff like cabbage and cauliflower are excellent for you! In lieu of yummy dark green leafys, I recommend these to replace them. Lots of good things for you AND fibre which totally helps with the overall health of your person.
The article I read (http://www.webmd.com/kidney-stones/kidney-stones-prevention) also said this:
"Try not to add salt when you cook or eat. Try removing the salt shaker from your table."
Pyat, this is REALLY you. REALLY. Please take care of you!

Hmm... I'm sure such a device could be made for a lot cheaper than 400 bucks. Maybe hand grip exercise thing and a stop watch? :)

It also helps to avoid things that have extra salt. Things that come in cans (like soup, gravy, sauces and even pop) aren't good, and things dry and crisp in a bag. Restaurant food and fast food are also no-nos as a rule because of their high sodium content. Even some breakfast cereals are suspect, so you gotta read the packaging.

Regular exercise 45 minutes a day can lower your BP about 9 mmHg for 9 hours, and you can split it into 2 or three different parts.

My final suggestion is to invest in an BP home monitoring cuff and track your BP over time. Don't get the cheapest and don't get the most expensive one. And don't get one of those wrist monitor jobbies either.
