I hate the new Star Trek movie already!

But I'm willing to believe I could be wrong.

And, frankly, I haven't bothered to see a new Trek movie in the theatres since Insurrection, which came out in 1998, and I didn't like it... and I didn't watch Enterprise, and I largely stopped watching Voyager after that awful mystery episode with the dog, which aired in 1995.

So, really, I'm not sure I'm exactly their target market, these days.

Darn kids.

That is pretty much where I stand. I comprehend that there are people more passionate about Trek than I was, but by definition are people really surprised that they changed stuff in a reboot? ANd I dont recall Kirk ever saying he wasn't a troubled youth before joining the academy. Could be wrong.

The car chase was pretty cool, but I can see how Trekkies would be upset. I was a little confused as to why there was a car in Trek. Even in Kirk's youth a car would be a historical artifact.

I hope they explain where he got it. Perhaps stole it from a collector.

Well, the troubled youth stuff is fairly solidly in the canon via novels. But not "He was a suicidal 12-year-old with the acrobatic skills of a ninja." :)

Ah, a ninja woulda landed on his feet. He lost the ride (a gleaming red barchetta?) and nearly got killed.

I think you overestimate how well he did there.
