This morning was a Christmas brunch at my father-in-law's house. There was more snow overnight, so getting there was a little problematic. But then, we are Canadians... even if we live on a latitude roughly equivalent to that of Northern California!

We loaded Claire and the presents onto a sled, and walked there.

The journey was fraught with peril. Rations were nonexistent. We lost the cargo a couple of times!

But the crew maintained a high morale.

In the end, I was mistaken for a production assistant from the set of Citizen Kane.

My Claire said yours is a pretty baby. She also said you look like Uncle Ed. Which makes no sense to me.

Thank you! Possibly she means Mr. Ed?

No, I realized it's the husband of her *Auntie* Braida. She's right.

Northern California?

Southern Oregon.

But still.

Good golly, what vintage is that sled? It looks like it could BE Rosebud!

Oh, c'mon, we're at 43 degrees north. If I drove to Windsor it'd be even. What's a degree of latitude between friends?

I'm not sure it's very old - they still make this kind, hereabouts!

Yeah, I had a very similar one as a kid, which was probably made 15 years ago.

Besides, Rosebud had runners. That's not a sled. That's a toboggan.

Hamilton is at 43.15, Toronto at 43.39.

Portland, Oregon is at 45.32.
Salem, Oregon (about 45 miles south of me though longer on the roads because there is sideways travel) is just south of 45 degrees, as in, the 45 degree line runs through the northern border of the city.
Medford is at 42.19 and a short distance south, Ashland, Oregon is at 42.12, and is perhaps 25 miles from the border between Oregon and California.

Canyonville is at 42.56 - I believe Myrtle Creek is ... yes, Myrtle Creek is at 43.01 ... so, much of Oregon is north of you, but all of California is (just) south of you.

The answer to the question, "What's a degree of latitude between friends?" is "111.12 km" according to the WikiAnswers website.

There is, currently, about 2-5 inches of snow here. The gentle crickle-crickle noise outside is ice falling from the sky and sticking in a crunchy sheet.

Your weather got lost. Would you like it back, please?

That pic of Claire in the purple hat is priceless.

And I am envious of your snow!

I am envious of the sunlight. It got up to 5 degrees F here today.

It's not the hat that gets me about Claire, it's those EYES. o.o

...and second on the snow envy. Oklahoma usually just gets ice. Today it was 25F (-4C) in the middle of the afternoon, and we had NOTHING. No snow, no sleet, no ice, NOTHING. Just cold. There is no point to just cold. There must be snow, or it must be warm! This is ridiculous!

Yes, the eyes definitely have it.
