Scrooge the 1951 film based on A Christmas Carol, with Alastair Simm as Scrooge. Not the colorized, edited version with Patrick Macnee in front of a fireplace, though I will watch that one. Also, the Muppet version of A Christmas Carol, which I saw with my family on Boxing Day, 1992.

But, as noted in my previous post, I also associate Christmas with Conan the Barbarian and New Year's Eve with Blade Runner.

I've watched that version of A Christmas Carol every year of my life (well, probably not when I was one or two). My sister and I have been known to break out in a chorus with a flurry of lines at any time of the rolling year.

My new tradition, in addition to the above, is to cuddle up on the couch with my husband, usually on Christmas Eve, and watch "Love, Actually". We first saw this movie the February after it came out, on a snowy night when we spontaneously decided we needed a date night. The weather was terrible that night, but to our surprise, the theatre was full of 30-60 year olds laughing and thoroughly enjoying themselves. I always bring a little bit of that energy with me when I sit down to watch it again.

You are not the first person to recommend this film to me! I should look around for it.

My favorite Christmas movie is Die Hard

It's especially heart-warming if you run it backwards - a gang of international thieves repent of their evil ways and chase off a drunk, bitter cop, all while reconstructing an office building in time for a Christmas party!

What about Gremlins?

Jean Shepherd's "A Christmas Story", where all Ralph Parker wants for Christmas is an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle.

Sometimes, when I have too much egg-nog'n'rum, I mix up Ralph's Old Man (played by Darren McGavin) with McGavin's other notable role, that of Carl Kolchak (star of the TV series The Night Stalker), and then I wonder how Kolchak managed to go back in time to the 1940s.

I actually saw this BB gun for sale at Wal-Mart a couple weeks ago. It amused me... Then I though of how many eyes were going to be put out with them, and it made me sad.

Every version of The Nutcracker. ALL OF THEM. Especially the Barbie one where she fights the Rock Golem.

Oh and that no-name one I saw a year or two with the seven-headed rat king was particularly classy.

I have to say that my favorite is National Lampoons: Christmas Vacation. The first one, I've never seen the sequel.
