velvetpage reports that it is 9 C (48 F) in the main floor of the house. Warmer upstairs. I suspect the basement is an ice cavern. I'll check when I get home.
To recap: Furnace broken, space heater placement on first floor an issue because they keep tripping breakers.
Well, at this point we're likely looking at having it fixed tomorrow (we hope...). The bedrooms were fine (even too warm) with the space heaters... it'd be an awful long way to come for just that.
The pipes seem to be clear of ice. Currently. I may run the dryer with the vent into the basement for an hour tonight to warm up the basement
Hmmm. Try boiling a few pots of water on the stove? Not only will the heat from the stove end up in the air, but the increased humidity will make it feel less cold and dry. You can use a fan to blow the warm humid air into the rest of the house.
Of course this requires constant supervision, but it's better than shivering your butt off I guess...
Well, you have my suggestions I wrote to your Mrs in the post preceding. Good luck holding out until tomorrow.

P.S. Come to think of it, you could always start burning some of your least liked RPG items in your collection for warmth. I hear Palladium books burn with a cheery blaze (but put out an awful smell). Your Hackmaster books will burn brightly albeit only for a few minutes before collapsing into smouldering coals. And 2nd Edition AD&D will burn for (rolls d20) only 7 rounds before burning out completely.

Date: 2008-03-17 08:26 pm (UTC)I have a couple sealed-oil electric radiators, in the basement: if you'd like me to dig them up and bring them over, I can do so.
