I finished novel #8 of the year today - Dream-Carver, by Erin van Hiel. This novel is particularly significant to me because it was written by my wife.

I will write a review, but not right now. I've been awake since before 4 AM and need to work-out, take a warm bath, and then settle into bed for as long as possible.

For book #9, I have been instructed to read Jane Austen. Yes, I am a bookworm with a fondness for 19th century British literature, and yet I have managed to live 34 years without reading Jane Austen. I don't know why, or how. I actually had no familiarity at all with the characters or plotline of Pride and Prejudice until I watched the Keira Knightley film version a few nights ago. I probably should have read it, first!

I'll start reading tonight, while soaking away the -30 C windchill in the bath tub.

And, here's a photo of Luba's Coffee Boutique at St. Lawrence Market. Tomorrow, I intend to try her FAMOUS HOT CHOCOLATE (HAND MADE WITH MILK).

Wait a minute... POUND? TOWN? That doesn't rhyme! That doesn't rhyme!

Good night!

Austen is amazing for her characterizations and descriptions... but be prepared for very long sentences and a certain amount of cruelty to the common comma. Austen is most definitely not to be read aloud.

I have been known, on occasion, to do the same, when it comes to commas.

Hmm. I had no problem reading P&P, S&S, and Emma aloud to [livejournal.com profile] nottheterritory, having never read them before. Granted, I was an actor for years and did countless cold readings, and studied lots of po-mo lit in uni, so... YMMV. :)
