I finished novel #8 of the year today - Dream-Carver, by Erin van Hiel. This novel is particularly significant to me because it was written by my wife.

I will write a review, but not right now. I've been awake since before 4 AM and need to work-out, take a warm bath, and then settle into bed for as long as possible.

For book #9, I have been instructed to read Jane Austen. Yes, I am a bookworm with a fondness for 19th century British literature, and yet I have managed to live 34 years without reading Jane Austen. I don't know why, or how. I actually had no familiarity at all with the characters or plotline of Pride and Prejudice until I watched the Keira Knightley film version a few nights ago. I probably should have read it, first!

I'll start reading tonight, while soaking away the -30 C windchill in the bath tub.

And, here's a photo of Luba's Coffee Boutique at St. Lawrence Market. Tomorrow, I intend to try her FAMOUS HOT CHOCOLATE (HAND MADE WITH MILK).

Wait a minute... POUND? TOWN? That doesn't rhyme! That doesn't rhyme!

Good night!

Yay fiction! I can't wait til June. That's when I get to read fiction once again. I shall have to get copy of Erin's book. And, I still need to lay my hands on a copy of the current Albedo rules.

I'd be interested to see what you think of both! :)

Austen is amazing for her characterizations and descriptions... but be prepared for very long sentences and a certain amount of cruelty to the common comma. Austen is most definitely not to be read aloud.

I have been known, on occasion, to do the same, when it comes to commas.

Hmm. I had no problem reading P&P, S&S, and Emma aloud to [livejournal.com profile] nottheterritory, having never read them before. Granted, I was an actor for years and did countless cold readings, and studied lots of po-mo lit in uni, so... YMMV. :)

Yes, and thank you.

My son seemed to like looking at your LJ posts as well. Although I suspect that might have more to do with the high contrast black and white.

My fiancee and her family love P&P, and will have P&P week-ends at their cabin sometimes. Though they by far prefer the BBC version. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112130/)

Here's to warm tubs and hot chocolate.

And pounds.

After I read 'em, I'll start seeking out more film versions, I imagine!

The BBC version is much, much, much better than the Hollywood version... but that's to be expected. You can do so much more in 5 hours than you can in 2.

I hate Jane Austen.

And Pound and Town do rhyme, just in a different way. It's the OW sound that works for it.

Whyfor do you hate Austen?

Because they're all pampered, rich, white, and whiney. They don't have any "real" problems. I hated The Great Gatsby for the same reason. And Catcher in the Rye.
