Back to work on Monday. Very busy Friday and Saturday happening/to come.

Today I took [livejournal.com profile] sassy_fae and [livejournal.com profile] nottheterritory on a whirlwind tour of Fabulous Haldimand County.

"It is cold today, Comrade Pyat."
"Da, Comrade Alexi. Cold. And hard."

I got new glasses. I like the old ones better, but they got stepped on.

Piet, are you and Erin free on Sunday, or do you need that day to relax? I may have stuff to do in Hamilton in the evening, and I was wondering about hanging out with you and Erin in the afternoon.

Erin says that could be good! Can you email her? I'm heading out for the evening in a few minutes. :)

What's the story behind the giant catfish?

Date: 2010-01-22 09:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] pyat.livejournal.com
Oh, no story. That's just how big they get up here.

More seriously, the "mudcat" is the mascot of the town of Dunnville, Ontario.

Thank you.

This is Canada, Land of Arbitrarily Giant Things. We don't need a reason to have giant things. Some guys probably just said, 'We should have a Giant Catfish.' and there was a Giant Catfish, and it was good. Because this is Canada! Land of Arbitrarily Giant Things.

The US has a fair share of Arbitrarily Giant Things too, at least along the I-80.

Yeah but the U.S. is just Canada South. Just because you chaps decided to seperate from the Great British Empire doesn't mean that anything less than the purest Maple Syrup flows in your bastard veins. Especially in Texas! That's where Maple Syrup goes to die in a fire, and the fumes make everything especially arbitrarily giant there.

"Us chaps?" I was born in Toronto and I live in Ottawa.

LOL Well sorry there. XD

You know how it is. As soon as someone jumps to suggest the U.S. is okay-too/better it's only natural to assume they're American.

*nod*

I'm actually getting a bit annoyed by that. Kind of like how I get upset when people do Christian bashing even though I'm an atheist. And that's with me having used to do that until relatively recently as well. It took me hanging out with an ex-pat American who was getting really hurt by some of those comments at a party for me to change my view.

I know what you mean. My own intention was to make a joke about how Americans and occasionally some other people call Canada "America's Little Brother" or "America Jr." or "Little Devil", suggesting we're just like America but weaker and less important.

All the same I might try that again when I get a better oppertunity and an actual American from the United States. ^.^;;

YOU HAVE COMMANDER RICK GLASSES!

I wish I could have come. I had to pull a eleven hour day. It was the result of an honestly shocking change at work (I'm still in shock, at least), but it HURT.

Whoa! Cool mudcat! Say, where exactly is it? My sister has been commissioned to write a children's book on "Bizarre Canada". So far, she's written on the Giant Potato near Fredericton, and the fact that the mason that worked on the old Toronto city hall (or was it the legislature?)fashioned the gorgons to have faces of the city councillors -- just because he had a grudge on them.

The giant mudcat certainly counts. Do you know of any other bizarre Canadian landmarks (or stories?)

That fish sculpture with the wavy fronds is awesome. The photo looked like a screenshot from a game for a minute.

Canada should annex the US. It'd be awesome. Well, for the US, anyway. >:)

The mudcat is on highway 3, just outside Dunnville.

I know of some neat places in Halidmand and Norfolk, and one or two other places. Like the Cheltenham Badlands, Sandpile, the Screaming Tunnel...
