Cracked.com never does any research beyond a single source weblink, usually an old news story. #7 on their List of "WTF" Houses was never finished, never even had windows put on most of it, and was demolished in 2008.

Cracked says - "The house contains a garden, ballroom, five-story bathhouse and numerous rooms where Sutyagin's business colleagues could "entertain" various women."

It never contained any of those things!

Anyway.

I've never heard of cracked.com, and after reading this article I can live quite well pretending I still haven't.

Is it always this poorly researched and written?

Yes. It's a humor site. Grumping 'cause they didn't source something correctly is like getting mad that water fails to be less wet.

I certainly acknowledge that I'm being grumpy about a minor point! This sort of thing bugs me.

When something is being presented as a fact, And, what's more, a marvellous fact, an exciting and intriguing thing that we're digging up as an astounding example from the real world to entertain you... well, I'd prefer it was real.

I still read the site most days. I like some of the writers a lot better than the others. A lot of the articles sort of reek of vanilla alpha male nerd (but not smart nerd, the sort of nerd who thinks playing video games makes you a nerd) that just turns me right off.

So, I don't read those ones. :)

My problem with it isn't that it's not sourced right, it's that it's poorly written and not very funny.

Taking a bunch of cheap shots at stuff does not make it humorous - it makes it juvenile.

I love satire and humor as much as the next guy, but I expect it to be well done.
