Thinking about spaceship costs in Star Wars and Traveller got me thinking about the old ship creation charts I made for Star Wars. It was very much an ad hoc set of rules, but I remember I once sat down and codified them, in my first year of university. While digging through my old WeG Star Wars RPG notes, I came across the following document, written about 15 years ago.

Note that, according to these rules, it is possible to buy a really, really terrible hyperdrive-equipped ship on the used market for about 500 credits. It would essentially be a light metal vessel with no space for cargo, tiny sublight engines, and no weapons. Sort of like a moped, really. You can take it on the highway, but it's not a good idea. It'd have hyperdrives, but you'd starve to death before finishing the Kessel Run.

A more reasonable "bare minimum for adventurers" vessel (Hull: 1D, Sublight: 1D, x4 Hyperdrive, R2 unit for astrogation, 2 passengers, light laser without fire control) would run about 15,000 new and 3,800 on the used market. It would essentially be the Star Wars equivalent of a Fiat 500 with a machine gun mount.

In the notes below, the "Star Cow" was an infamous albatross of a vessel in my Star Wars games in high school. The players always seemed to end up flying it or crossing paths with it.

Starship Enhancement/Construction Chart

When buying a starship, cross-reference the stat with desired die code rating to find the cost of that rating. Add the costs together to find the total cost of the ship. When enhancing a ship, each die code level must be paid for before advancing to the next die code. Enhancements beyond 6D are possible, but only as military prototypes. Each additional step beyond 6D costs three times as much as the last step, eg. Shields of 6D+1 = 750,000 credits, 6D+2 = 2,250,000 credits, etc. Enhancing manuever beyond 5D is impossible with human-piloted ships. Computer piloted ships may go higher, use the Shield cost table for this. Costs are for Starfighter scale vessels only. Assume 25% cost when buying used vessels.
