The late Clive Exton wrote a number screenplays for British television, perhaps most memorable being the Jeeves and Wooster dramatizations, as well some of the Poiroit adventures.

The late George MacDonald Fraser wrote the excellent Flashman series of novels, as well as a variety of lively historical pieces.

Together, they wrote Red Sonja.

Sadly, this combination of talents was not a "You got chocolate in my peanut butter!" situation.

On a different note... time for a new Conan movie!

(Robert E. Howard Conan, not Robert Jordan Conan.)

You know, Arnie is old enough to play Conan the King, now. If he leaves politics.

But, on second thought, that would suck.

I liked Red Sonja. Not as good as Willow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWrj3Kljex4) though.

I also like it, and agree it's not as good as Willow!

You know, as much as I like George MacDonnald Fraser's writing (believe me, I do love me some Flashman), he sure did work on some lackluster pictures (well, in my opinion anyway, I'm not sure how you feel about Octopussy).

On a somewhat related note, I see that they're making a Soloman Kane movie. This both pleases and frightens me. He always was my favorite Robert E. Howard character, and it would make me sad to see it turn out as poorly as the other movies based on his stories.

Well, except for Conan the Barbarian I guess. It's a guilty pleasure. :)

Oh, lawks. Octopussy. Quite. Ug.

And, the first Conan film is really one of the best fantasy movies ever made, at least in my opinion. It holds up fairly well.

The soundtrack was very well done, among other things.

GMF did do the screenplays for the Three Musketeers and Four Musketeers, staring Michael York, Charleton Heston as the best Richelieu ever, Christopher Plummer, Oliver Reed, Richard Chamberlain, and Raquel Welch.

With a touch of whimsy and some excellent sword play these are two of my favourite movies of all time.

These were briefly available a few years ago in a two-DVD set, which I bought, and then leant to a weaselly weasel who made off with them and swore they'd been returned. Gah. They really captured that sense of pastiche that GMF does so well. Octopussy reads best as a send-up of Bond, and Red Sonja as a send-up of Conan. It didn't help either film that the directors/producers didn't, unlike with the Lester muskateer flicks, seem to /get/ that.

I have that very same set ... yet am not the weaselly weasel. How conspicuous is that?
