Family
I have one! I love them very much.
velvetpage and I have been together 15 years, and she still manages to surprise me sometimes. Elizabeth and Claire are wonderful, creative little girls who are growing up to be very interesting people.
Nerdery
I am very much a nerd, of a certain kind. I like nerds. All my best friends are nerds. In the company of nerds, I can be expansive, witty, and a raconteur. They are my people. I go to conventions because I like being in a place full of enthusiastic happy people, no matter how odd they are. I don’t like to use the phrase “mundane.” But, I admit that when I’m placed in a room with people who regard nerdish pursuits as childish or uninteresting, I turn into a stammering, awkward, bumbling weirdo.
Furry
Ah, yes. Furry. I attend conventions, hang out on FurryMUCK, and sell books to people dressed as skunks. I really enjoy Furry fandom, even if the interactions are sometimes odd. They’re no odder, as a whole, than anime fans (for example) and tend to be less poisoned by irony.
Mice
I like mice, or at least fictional representations of intelligent mice. Real mice are interesting as well, but rather too stupid and too fragile to make ideal pets, IMHO. Reepicheep is very cool.
Awesome
Many things and people are awesome. A nice breeze from Lake Ontario is awesome. Eggs Benedict at 8 AM at Paddington’s Pump are awesome. Cool rainy days are awesome. I think everyone reading this is awesome – this may be the first time since I started Livejournal that I didn’t have any clunkers on my Friend’s List.

Words
Date: 2009-06-22 09:20 pm (UTC)That make rhymes,
Will you choose
Sometimes--
As the winds use
A crack in the wall
Or a drain,
Their joy or their pain
To whistle through--
Choose me,
You English words?
I know you:
You are light as dreams,
Tough as oak,
Precious as gold,
As poppies and corn,
Or an old cloak;
Sweet as our birds
to the ear,
As the burnet rose
In the heat
Of Midsummer:
Strange as the races
Of dead and unborn:
Strange and sweet
Equally,
And familiar,
To the eye,
As the dearest faces
That a man knows,
And as lost homes are:
But though older far
Than oldest yew,--
As our hills are, old,--
Worn new
Again and again:
Young as our streams
After rain:
And as dear
As the earth which you prove
That we love.
Make me content
With some sweetness
From Wales,
Whose nightingales
Have no wings,--
From Wiltshire and Kent
And Herefordshire,
And the villages there,--
From the names, and the things
No less.
Let me sometimes dance
With you,
Or climb,
Or stand perchance
In ecstasy,
Fixed and free
In a rhyme,
As poets do.
