It's from The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood, Newfoundland's first feature length film. It's sort of an uneven meandering dark comedy/fantasy. I haven't seen it since I was about 14, and I remember it as really boring, but now I really want a copy.
It's sort of interesting for a number of reasons, not least of which is that it took about 10 years to film. A lot of the actors go from "scruffy 20-something artistic idealist" to "overweight bald guy in his late 30s" from scene to scene.
The grid stuff is sort of a cult that the main character leads a revolt against, IIRC.
