You know, I once worked out that a character could live quite comfortably wandering the Imperium on TAS tickets--just convert every other ticket to cash and you have the money to support a somewhat frugal lifestyle, while using the remaining tickets to travel.

Well, y'know, I did the same thing...

But I'm thinking that momentrabbit had the right idea in choosing a Seeker. You can go where you like, and the rules say nothing about upkeep costs! And, if you tire of space travel, you can sell the Seeker for 14 MCr and buy a Traveller's Aid membership.

That was the game in which all our characters sucked because we didn't want to be "really old"... ie, over 30.

I've never played Traveller, but it seems to me that all the other options just have too many strings attached. If the future's post-singularity, everything's free: if it's non-singularity, ownership rocks the socks.

Besides, you can fix the atmo scrubbers with bubblegum, clean sweatsocks, charcoal and a hairdryer. Every spacer knows that..

Well, a Seeker is a variant of your standard Sulieman-class Scout/Courier. 100 tons, 1 parsec/week jump time, and it comes with a free grav buggy! Suitable for 1 crusty space prospector and up to three of his/her friends!

Not only do you usually get a better Jump capacity for hopping around the Spinward Marches, but you get to emulate Han Solo and get in some smuggling along with the usual cargo crapola.

P.S. Still, Seeker's and Scouts are fun, and beats travelling as frozen corpse-icles with a 1/4 chance as ending up as emergency food rations.

A Seeker, man! Come on! Free and clear is where it's at!

Free Traders and Scout/Couriers just inevitably lead to the "declared rouge spacer and/or pirate" tag getting attached to one's official Imperial citizen dossier.

TAS membership is also more valuable than it may first seem; however, it's only good in "civilized areas of space", which is a limitation that the Seeker doesn't necessarily have.

(And as for low passage, they don't call 'em popsicles for nothin' my friend, "Oh! Look! We have more raw bio-mass for the matter reclamation systems!" "Yeah, and it has a nice pair of boots, too...")
