This time from [livejournal.com profile] slwatson:

1.) Favorite type of cloth.
I can honestly say that no one has asked me this question before. As such, I’ve never thought about it. I… I don’t know. Tweed is sort of cool and retro. Silk is fun to touch. Is leather cloth? It smells nice.

2.) Favorite color of carpeting.
These questions are highly controversial! Heh. Um… I’m not sure. I like those Turkish rug sorta things, with fancy designs. If left to my own devices, I’d probably carpet a room in some dark utilitarian color. I’ll say… blue?

3.) How fatherhood has changed your life.
I used to get a lot more sleep, yet at the same time I stayed up late a lot more. [livejournal.com profile] velvetpage and I used to play D&D till 1 AM. We used to randomly go to movies or out or dinner. That spontaneity was lost, but we have gained a lot. I’ve experienced emotional highs of a sort I’d never felt before. And children are delightful, when they are in their element. Yes, you don’t take a rambunctious toddler into a movie or to a lecture, but in their element, in their own place, they are absolutely a joy.

4.) Kids shows you secretly don't want to admit to liking.
Ha! To heck with that. I admit freely to liking almost all of them. I even like Maggie and the Ferocious Beast. I guess the most embarrassing one I like, though, would have to be In the Night Garden which is rather like a less trippy version of the Boobahs, narrated by Derek Jacobi. Claire really loved that show, and she has an animatronic “Iggle Piggle”, complete with blanket.

5.) Family history -- ie, where your family originated from, way back when.
My father was born in Utrecht, Holland, and his family lived there for a long time. Through his mother (my Oma) we have a connection with the Huguenots, French Protestants who fled to Holland in the late 1600s. Members of my family have claimed that we are descendants of Rembrandt, but I have no idea how reliable that claim is. My dad’s family came to Canada in 1957.

My mom is Canadian born, but her parents were both immigrants. Grandpa was born on the Channel Isle of Guernsey, a British Crown Dependency. Grandma was born in Edinburgh. Their families immigrated to Canada after WWI.

Ask your local fabric store if they have any silk charmeuse. I am confident you will find a use for it.

Guernsey? Like the cows?

Okay! I actually live near a textile district.

And yep, like the cows.

I'm not sure how your family can be ancestors of someone who died before the currently living generations were born, but I can see "we are related to Rembrandt van Rijn" being much less temporally recursive.

Well, I DID say it wasn't a very reliable claim.

Some people use "ancestors" to mean "descendants"

Some people also use "parents" to mean "children" and "dogs" to mean "cats."

The first (ancestors vs. descendants) has precedent and is much more common.

Oh, it was just a typo. :)

You'd have to be descendants or just relatives of Rembrandt, not ancestors, since he lived rather a long time before any living members of your familiy did :P.

Maggie and the Ferocious Beast is pretty good, I dunno why you would say 'I even like' as if it was shocking. That show reminded me a lot of my own childhood imagination, and the crushing lonliness of being an outsider in a world gone mad.

If you want to watch a bad show you need to check out Angela Annaconda. I almost walked out of the Digimon Movie because they force you to sit through an Angela Annaconda skit loosely based on Digimon first. GAHHHHHHHHH.

Thank goodness they seem to have finally taken it off the air. That television show had got to be in the top ten list of Canadian Atrocities.

In the Night Garden terrifies me. *grins*

Rhys seems to like it (he watches it at daycare), but I watched an episode in absolute horror. *grins*

1st response: BWAHAHAHAHA!

2nd response: Hey, that's what would have happened had you stayed aboard the Baal's Bachanaal.
