You know what I think? I bet it would be really cool if you added a sound effect when you have text come onto the screen. You could do a typewriter noise, or maybe a dot matrix printer. An electric typewriter noise would be a great middle-ground.
Oh that's a good idea, and for the video parts you can use one of those old film-strip illuminators they used in education compounds during the longago.
