The Rainsoft sales lady just told us we had radium and pharmacueticals in our water.
She also told us about their 160,000 square foot facility in Illinois and all the charity work the company does. Oh, and they exceed industry standards!
They also sell a water softener for$4000! $6000!
*eyeroll*
Now she's complimenting
velvetpage on her brains, and saying "You have a good brain on your shoulders, but do you think you could do more research than NASA?"
And now she's working into the "So, how much do you spend a week?" thing.

Date: 2009-01-29 12:37 am (UTC)The real way to make a change is to get your pipes (indoors and out, as the ones from street to house are the worst culprits) replaced. This is not a small expense, but sometimes municipalities will chip in if there's a significant issue, and you should be able to get proper testing via the city.

Date: 2009-01-29 12:52 am (UTC)We HAVE a Brita. We definitely could use a water softener, but I'm not leasing one for $100+ a month or whatever it'll be.

Date: 2009-01-29 01:56 am (UTC)So I was already somewhat prepared, having seen it all before.
Huh?
Date: 2009-01-29 02:24 am (UTC)And I have a coworker who used to work for one of those water shyster companies. He says he was very good at it, and only left because he couldn't handle the guilt of bilking so many poor folks who couldn't afford to buy his stupid stupid crap but did anyways.
