So, I bought a Muppet Christmas Special DVD at the grocery store for the girls, one with a generic festive cover.

I thought I was buying A Muppet Family Christmas.

Turns out I bought It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, in in which Kermit freezes to death on a park bench and Pepe the "Most Annoying Character after Elmo" King Prawn tries to have sex with Joan Cusack.

With a special guest appearance by Triumph the Insult Dog!

Dear me, that sounds horrible. Is that one of the Disney-era movies?

Lee.

It's 2002. It has some funny bits, but the girls are bored by it, and I'm sort of mad at it. :)

Also - in answer to a comment you made earlier - yes, I would like to read some of your fiction!

You'll be sorry. I'll have a look and see if I still have your email addie.

Nope, Wikipedia says its a Jim Henson Television production. The Wikipedia article describes it a wee bit differently than you do.

What's wrong with Pepe?

...okay, just re-read your post. I love Pepe. *shrug*

I like him most of the time. I really hated him in their Wizard of Oz thing, and wasn't crazy about him in this one. So, I suspect my dislike is more based on recent exposure, than a fair assessment of his value in light of the totality, the "oeuvre d'Pepe."

OH dear, fooled, were you? I saw that one in the store the other day and passed. For completeness sake, I might someday want it, being a Muppet freak, but I thought it was pretty icky and depressing. It tried to do an "It's a wonderful life" parody and failed miserably.

Muppet Family Christmas, however, is a must. And I'm quite partial to "Muppet Christmas Carol" as well, though it's not quite as toddler friendly.

As far as I know, the "Muppet Family Christmas" doesn't exist on DVD. At least not in the US. The only copies I've ever seen are bootlegs. Which I'm not happy about either.

I take it back. You CAN find the DVD on Amazon... but because its out of print, they want over $140 for it.

I love the Muppets, but that's harsh.

It's actually quite entertaining and really the Muppet version of It's A Wonderful Life.

There's a great scene at the end where Miss Piggy throws down with Joan Cusack.

My siblings and I watch it every year along with the Muppet Family Christmas and A Muppet Christmas Carol, because it's not Christmas without the Muppets.

The Muppet Family Christmas is on DVD and has been for a few years now, but for some reason the stand up comedy routine Fozzie does with the snowman got cut.

Ew, ew, ew.

Conjurdude loves Pepe the Prawn, but I've already forgiven him.

I almost made that mistake once...but the good one is like $100+ on DVD and is pretty rare...so I am glad I at least have it on VHS.
They are making a Christmas special every year, it seems...which is kinda not cool.
I guess I will just have to buy the Muppet Christmas Carol on DVD.

The Muppet Family Christmas one is on Youtube, in high quality... you can save the video to your computer machine, with a Firefox plugin!

Anyone recall that one with Emmet the Otter, I think it was? Had a bunch of river side animals playing in a jug band, if memory serves right...

Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas. Yep! I saw it when I was very very small, and half-remembered it for years. Now I have it on VHS.
