It was a good day. The service this morning was engaging, with some good music and an interesting message. In the afternoon we went to a party at the home of [livejournal.com profile] doc_mystery and [livejournal.com profile] mrs_dm. [livejournal.com profile] mar2nee, her husband Daniel, and their daughter Sydney were also in attendance. We arrived to find that [livejournal.com profile] doc_mystery had just started Buckaroo Banzai, so while the adults and teen sat about watching the movie, the various little girls had a blast in the playroom.

Buckaroo Banzai was followed up with Mazes & Monsters. I was flabbergasted. Years I've been trying to get other gamers to watch this movie with me! Years! And now, twice in two weeks I've sat around with congenial nerds and watched the whole thing through. The Stars Must be Right.

After the movies, we played a round of a new (to us) card game, Family Business, a mob themed game. I was the Capone Gang, and I launced a vendetta against [livejournal.com profile] doc_mystery's Murder Inc. Last round was between me, Daniel, [livejournal.com profile] doc_mystery (briefly) and Sydney. [livejournal.com profile] doc_mystery was eliminated immediately, Sydney cashed out, and I managed to get Daniel before he got me. It was an interesting game. Fairly monotonous mechanics for the most part, but the last few rounds were fast and furious, and interesting enough.

And now... bed time, and a new week. Snowing rather heavily out. I'm not looking forward to Monday morning at all.

I was sort of annoyed to find that my VHS copy was crisper and brighter than the DVD transfer.

We played games of "identify the movie poster" and tried to figured out their character sheets.

You might also be interested in Skullduggery, another Canadian movie about RPGs driving people crazy, also starring Wendy Crewson and Clark Johnson. Johnson played the black med student who loaned them the skeleton - in Skullduggery he's a member of the gaming group.

Oh, so it wasn't a conscious cinematic choice? Guh, I swear, except for a few outdoor daytime shots, I don't think more than 40% of the screen was illuminated at any one time.

I thought he looked familiar... turns out he was in "Homicide". And "The Littlest Hobo"! Oh, man, if only I could find that theme song in mp3.

Something to listen to while driving off to cons and roadtrips? :)

That, and the Raccoons theme song, should be required listening for con trips. Especially to furry cons.

Ooh, that's another good one.

I should see if I can find that on CD/MP3.

Google-fu should hook you up with three different versions, assuming the Raccoons fan site is still up. :)
