I'm not even remotely surprised, though I am greatly amused. The essence of punk is to do exactly what people least expect, and this certainly qualifies.
However, you don't have to delve too far into the history of punk as a genre to find the commercialism running through it (esp. anything to do with Malcolm McLaren). It wasn't all a glorious people's revolution, that's for sure.
