If I'd bothered to read the whole thing, I'd have seen that the hoax was in the claimed ID of the "leaker", not the leaked info itself.

So, according to FOX news, McCain aides did, indeed say that Palin did not know Africa was a continent. A Palin aide has gone so far as to blame it on a specific misunderstanding.

As I recall, sortof.

It's a little fuzzy - amazing what two months will do for a memory - but the way I remember it, she didn't actually try to ban the book, she asked about the process, apparently with a specific book in mind. When the librarian expressed incredulity, she pulled out the threat of firing her for not supporting the mayor.
