It was clear and cold this morning, with a thick frost on the car windows and lawns. The sky was as clear and dark as it ever gets in Hamilton, meaning only a few dozen stars were visible. But, the ones I could see shone bright and clear, with barely a twinkle. When I turn right out of my front door, Orion’s Belt shines in front of me all the way to the bus stop.

We bought a “new” camera, a Fuji FinePix S800. It a highly-reviewed “bridge” camera, midway between a digital point-and-shoot and digital SLR. When I arrives, I’ll be taking photo requests!

The diminutive Optios S [livejournal.com profile] kianir mailed me last year is still functional, but it requires much fussing and must be help in a specific way to prevent the battery from disconnecting itself while shooting photos. It will remain in my coat pocket, inside the Altoids tin, for whenever I want to ambush people or take pictures of plates of bacon.

Company “casino party” this afternoon. Joy.

I recommended its predecessor the S700 a year ago. :) It's a good line!

In regard to the Pentax, what specifically is going on with it? If it's not some sort of retention problem, and just dirty contacts, you can try cleaning them up with a pencil eraser slot car style.

It's most just a matter of the battery door failing to catch - and even holding it in place does ensure the battery stays put. Half the time I need to leave the door open and press it in place with a thumb. Not a major issue, by any means.

Mostly, I'm just hankering for a more "pro" camera.
