Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends. Yes, it is the day we all join together to give thanks that God preserved the health and life of HRH, the late Prince Edward of Wales, and allowed him to grow in years and widsom to become King Edward VII. God Save the King!

Seven years ago, I had Thanksgiving at my parent's old house in Kingston, and it snowed heavily as the radio burbled news of the first strikes in Afghanistan. Today, it is sunny and very warm - rather humid, in fact. I went out and raked the leaves with the girls.

Yesterday was the Thanksgiving service at the Unitarian-Universalist church. The Sunday School kids baked us chocolate chip cookies which were served as we left. Following this, we spent a few hours celebrating the 5th birthday of [livejournal.com profile] doc_mystery and [livejournal.com profile] mrs_dm's daughter at an indoor playground. I got to climb through a human habitrail, and [livejournal.com profile] velvetpage continued her SCAdian giddiness to the extent of climbing into the play structure and going down slides. :)

In a few hours, we're going to my parents, where we'll join my older sister and her fiance, as well as some old family friends. I hope you all have something to be thankful for.

Oh, and tomorrow is the Canadian federal election.

Might be a part of it, I guess. I was just sort of contrasting the difference in climate - weather and political!

I'm thankful to live in a social democracy like Canada, where manners and fair play are valued societal norms and a basic sense of decency keeps elections fair and crime more or less under control, and where all citizens can get health care regardless of income, unlike our neighbors to the south in the USA.

Oh wait.

Oh, damn.

That picture of Claire has a very 70s-sepia look to it. And the way her hair pretty much matches the leaves is awesome.
