[livejournal.com profile] ruiskafleck and [livejournal.com profile] wggthegnoll were over today, the first time we've seen them since their wedding, almost exactly a year ago. Well, aside from a 45 second conversation at FanExpo.

We had a pleasant afternoon of conversation and sewing. Yes, sewing. [livejournal.com profile] velvetpage and [livejournal.com profile] ruiskafleck combined their talents to create me a sort faux-Medieval tunic. [livejournal.com profile] velvetpage and may be descending even deeper into dorkdom, and joining the Society for Creative Anachronisms! We're going for generic vaguely medieval for our first event, but if we like it, we'll need to create personas. [livejournal.com profile] wggthegnoll noted that one can choose any culture from the period between 600 AD and 1600 AD, provided it had contact with Europeans. This makes me sort of wonder if I shouldn't go for an Aztec from the time of the Spanish conquest...

I'm sure that would go over well at SCA functions.

"Glory unto Huitzilopōchtli for this delicious mead! Death is the road to awe! Hey, who made that mail for you?"

More seriously, I was thinking just going with my Dutch heritage, but sadly the 1600 cutoff date just misses Holland's golden age of empire and culture.

I love the Aztec thing, both for how alien it is to the SCA tradition, and for the chance to piss-take yet another culture that richly deserves it. I think you could get around the too-much-exposed-skin problem; just say you're from a parallel world where the Aztec Empire expanded north, and that you're a minor noble from the Lands of Chalmecatl.

Hmm... what I really want to be is a time traveller, though!

Time-traveling Aztec warriors with "Roar of Acolnahuacatl" man-portable smart missiles!

Yes, I have read Mick Farren's _Necrom_ and Ernest Hogan's _High Aztech_ entirely too many times. And only the latter remotely deserves it.
