I took some time off work this afternoon - I'm working from home - and went driving with Elizabeth. She tells great stories, and has an excellent memory for a 5-year-old. She recognizes her day care.

As we drove, she had a thought:

"Dad, if everyone in the whole world was a cupcake, we would all dream of growing up to be cakes."

So, on our jaunt, we bought a refurbished 17" LCD monitor for the Fortress computer.. and put a deposit on an Acer Aspire One. This is the tiny sublaptop thing, with a 120 GB HD, Windows XP, extended battery, wireless, etc., etc. It seems it'll be handy for freelancing, working while commuting, and even basic video editing and the like. I'm going to load up all my old Champions/GURPS/Hackmaster/AD&D windows utilities on it, for use in games.

Where are you getting your Acer Aspire One from?

I've been thinking seriously getting an extra netbook myself.

Canada Computers, at the Dundurn Strip Mall. It was about $20 cheaper there than anywhere I've been, and they have excellent support.

Coincidentally, I stopped in there briefly at about 4:30 today to look around. My first time in there ever, too.

"Dad, if everyone in the whole world was a cupcake, we would all dream of growing up to be cakes."

I cradled her words in my mind as I ran, ran through the woods, the sounds of obese children crashing through the bracken behind me drowning out my sobs. For if we were only all cupcakes, we could dream of growing up to be cakes. But in this world, this hell of gastronomancy, cupcakes such as we could only dream of a moment on the plate.. and eternity on the hips.

The children were getting closer, and I was growing dizzy from loss of frosting.

Well it's hardly relevant in my case as it will be a few laptop generations before I'm able to think seriously about buying a new one anyway...

A laptop generation is only a few months, so. . . next summer?

Once Piet has his and we've worked some bugs out, maybe we'll buy one for me, too.

PLease tell us how the Acer works out. I need a small notebook for most of the same uses, even potentially the GMing part, but don't want to spend a bundle on more than I need.

Elizabeth's remark is quite similar to my Shirt Woot Derby entry for last week (http://s3.amazonaws.com/wootdesigncontestentries/snobahr/Cupcake_Dreams-drihkf-s.jpg)...

Similar enough that I'm wondering if she saw it when Erin was browsing the net. Did you LJ it?

I had posted a link to it, yup :) But I didn't post the image itself in my LJ.
