From CNN’s obit of Arthur Clake:

The 1968 story "2001: A Space Odyssey" -- written simultaneously as a novel and screenplay with director Stanley Kubrick -- was a frightening prophecy of artificial intelligence run amok.

In other news, CNN's obit of Shakespeare notes that he was best known for Hamlet, a horror story about a haunted castle.

Finished reading two more novels, one last night, and one this morning, my 13th and 14th books of the year. They were:

HMS Surprise, by Patrick O’Brian (1973)
Farewell Summer, by Ray Bradbury (2006)

I enjoyed both, though the glowing afterword by Charlton Heston at the end of HMS Surprise made me worry about whether or not I was allowed to like the same books as Chuckosaurus.

The Bradbury novel is the sequel to his classic Dandelion Wine. It was really more of a coda or cap to the earlier work. Worth reading though, and quite deftly written in places.

Now to finish reading the draft of [livejournal.com profile] bard_bloom’s most recent novel!
