Though I've not heard from her, the second leg of [livejournal.com profile] velvetpage's flight appears to be underway. She's due to land in Memphis in 1 hour and 22 minutes, with no expected delays.

That's really good news.

In other news, this quotation reminded me of you and your reading habits. I thought you would appreciate it.

"Some books contain the machinery required to create and sustain universes."
-Tycho, at Penny Arcade

Yeah, let that roll around in your head for a little bit. It's really as simple and beautiful as that, isn't it?

I see a bookshelf, filled with different books from different authors, all acting as portals to different worlds and different times. The author may give them birth, but it's the readers who keep them alive.

It's from one of my favourite blogs, http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/. Wil Wheaton, you may recall, was Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Huh, then I scrolled down.....

Of all the things I do that make me a geek, nothing brings me as much joy as gaming. It all started with the D&D Basic Set, and today it takes an entire room in my house to contain all of my books, boxes, and dice.

Thank you for giving us endless worlds to explore, Gary Gygax. Rest in peace.

Did I mention he's a big gamer?

He sure is! When he was on Star Trek, he ran a science-fiction roleplaying game with his friends, using plots based on upcoming episodes of the series.

Thank you! I like the quotation, and flattered that it would make you think of me.

Here's hoping for you hearing soon about happy landings.

I also wanted to let you know that I picked up a couple of Wodehouse books at Chapman's Booksellers in Dundas, during their closing out sale. I picked up a first edition of Enter Pmith after reading your earlier posting, and a compilation entitled Nothing But Wodehouse that includes the novel, "Leave it to Psmith."

I've not read Enter Psmith, but I have read Leave it to Psmith, which is actually a crossover between Psmith and the Blandings Castle stories.

And thanks for the well-wishes!
