While I was trying to come up with a quip that provided a suitably semiotic fusion of West Side Story and Zegfield Follies, [livejournal.com profile] commanderteddog simply said:
"Waaaarriors! Come out to plaaaaaaay!"

Other photos from the day:

I also tried to come up with something about George Will and the denim thing, or about how "The last time I saw a pantless woman on Yonge street, she didn't have virgin written all over her!" But the Warriors thing won the day.

Horsies!

Very lazy demolition on Church Street. When they tore down the building to make the parking lot, they left the interior plaster and wall paint as a sort of shadow of the former building.

A hearse for midgets.

That is certainly a very fetching, ah, virgin...

Deep is out debt to David Patrick Kelly, deep.

That is pretty funny.

Well, re: Church St., the buildings that were there were long-empty and decrepit, so the demolition was inevitable. I really liked walking by that wall after the fact. Though it's a lot shabbier now that the colour's peeling off, it was rather charming, like a side-opening dollhouse, but life-size. For a while there was this art project that put black and white life-size photographic images of people on random walls around town -- there were three, I think, on that one. Happy black and white people in empty, pastel rooms. Poetic, really.

Also, I helped clean up the resulting parking lot a year ago this week IIRC, and was grossed out thoroughly by some of what was found...

I kind of miss that job, and I kind of don't. You know?

The inscription on her back is confusing. "Virgin Mobile." Does that mean she's a virgin, but she still really "gets around?"

Hey! Lunch today? 12:30, Rankins? Or elsewhere?

Whatever happened to that guy? (He asked, immediately checking IMDB and finding out)

I like it, too! And while I blamed it on a lazy demolition job, I'm sure there was some structural reason to leave up the old wall.

And I can understand missing that job, craziness and all. You got to meet exciting people and do cool things.

The little doors at the end made it look totally like a hearse!

So, I am curious about why Virgin records had people in pinstripe suit coats and no pants standing around in public. Did you investigate this properly?

Ah! It wasn't Virgin Records, it was Virgin Mobile, who are a big cel phone provider up here. Same company, different branch. It was just some kind of special offer on calling plans, I think.

I think we were in the same area of Toronto at the same time! I too saw the leggy "Virgins" at the corner of Yonge and Bloor. But that was on a Friday the 24th, so perhaps it wasn't the same day. I guess they really get around.

I suspect "Virgin" is just an honorific. How was your convention?
