Dog n Suds finds its way to a lot of niche beverage shelves in the MidWest. At least I saw a root beer with an almost identical label in Ann Arbor at several of the delis. It was better than A&W, but that's not too hard.

Apparently, it was a fairly widespread drive-in chain through the Midwest, with franchises as far as Florida, but it's shriveled to a handful here and there. According to Wiki:

"They were very common throughout the 1950s and 1960s and at one time had about 750 restaurants. Griggs sold his interest in the business in the early 1970s. As of 2009, sixteen locations remain open."

One of those locations is in the town where I live, in Lafayette, IN. It's actually a drive-in, and like the one in Lake Geneva, it's a seasonal joint. The opening every spring is a bit to-do, and they're usually very crowded during the first couple weeks. I'm not entirely sure why. The rootbeer here is pretty good. It's also sold in supermarkets here, and does not get quite as dusty.

I applaud your choice of Sprecher Root Beer. That is, in my opinion, the best rootbeer in the world (a close second is Point Root Beer, from Stevens Point, WI). When it's offered, it's my number one choice of drink. Sprecher Orange Dream and Cream Soda are also tasty.

The Sprecher's was definitely good, the Dog N' Suds tasted... well, I only drank a few sips and then sealed it. I'm seeming positive reviews on the net, so I'll assume the vintage of the bottle was to blame.

The Dog N' Suds was actually in a little town en route to Lake Geneva - it's where the cop pulled us over.
