My older sister and I, circa 1977. No Internet, no DVD, no VHS, no Betamax, no cable...

Yep, we'd sit around the ol' spinnin' shoe for hours, mesmerized.

Hey, it's better than emptying the Roach Hotel in frying pan of hot oil. I think I was grounded throughout much of '77 due to that.

I've gotta say that she doesn't look that mesmerized.

Well you still had that fun game of "stick your hand in something gross and go show mum and dad". Hang on a sec, didn't Claire recently enjoy that one?

Wow, you had a spinning shoe in 1977? We didn't get one of those until the 80s!

Second half of '77 was me waiting for my baby brother to be born.

When we moved to Hamilton, atmospheric ash settled on my white blond locks, staining them permanently.

*sniffs imperiously* I'm not ashamed of my privileged background. We weren't allowed to play with you shoe box people.

"Is he born yet?"
"No."
"Is he born yet?"
"No."
"Is he born yet?"
"N... wait.... yes."
"Hooray!"

Actually it was along the lines of waiting until April 2nd, 1978. They had to keep Jim in the hospital for about a week before he and our mom came home. When the car came up, I ran up, went past my mom and was quoted saying "Where's my baby?"
