I'd call it a win. The girls had fun, [livejournal.com profile] velvetpage had fun, and I had fun. Within 20 minutes of arrival, Elizabeth had found two friends. Their mother gave us child-sized garb that fit Claire and Elizabeth perfectly. [livejournal.com profile] ruiskafleck and [livejournal.com profile] wggthegnoll arrived around 90 minutes after we did, and introduced us to the powers that be. We ate apples and watched fighting and lazed in the autumn sun. I got to see Lake Niapenco, an entire lake about 20 km from my house, the existence of which I did not even suspect until well into adulthood.

Behold! Sir Hornrim of Thickneck!

Arrow'ed!

Elizabeth, playing with a new friend, in her new garb.

We weren't the only anachronistic folks out today. This biplane went over a few times.

Claire decided the grass near the lake shore was a good place to suddenly stop and lie down. She was right. It was comfy.

[livejournal.com profile] velvetpage, being giddy. No, really!

A more closely cropped version of the previously posted pic. Sleeves! Smiles! Cars!

Hatchet practice. One woman in attendance suggested Elizabeth try it, seeming to mistake her for a much older child. We were like... "Um... she's five?"

[livejournal.com profile] wggthegnoll (on the right), bashing heads in the name of justice!

That's a great picture of Claire. She looks like a wise old soul. If I were you, I'd crop it a bit more, print it and frame it. Also, you should all get dressed up in your SCA garb again and have a family picture taken, then make it into a medieval Christmas card (easily done at Wal-Mart or Black's or something).

We almost always send pictures of Girl-O at Christmas to the mother-in-law who lives in B.C. It solves that, what-do-you-get-for-the-grandma-who-has-everything-and-wants-nothing problem. Also, it's flat and easy to send by mail.

I found the SCA to be far more enjoyable when I was single. Now when I see what is left when you are not chasing bodices, I found there wasn't much to keep my attention.

However, the archery did look tempting. Its been a while since I have used my longbow, and Amanda's bow has been collecting dust longer.

Already five years old and she still can't throw a hatchet? For shame, Pyat! XD

These are some great pictures, thank you for sharing. <3

Who says we're not chasing the bodices?

A most presentable series of illustrations, and it seems a jolly time was had by all. Huzzah!

I guess there are two variations on the phrase.

When I chased bodices, I was young and able... and single.
By my reckoning, the bodices you were chasing were on your bubbly wife and two little giggly bodices.

Yes...er... of course. *shifty look* Precisely what I meant. Gosh, heck, yes. :)

We need to fancify our garb a bit before we do, I think.

That reminds me - I need to print out that pic of the church in Newport.

One word: Shutterfly.com. We made photo books for the grandparents last year, and we'll probably do the same this year, but we're waiting until after Krista's wedding to do it so we'll have the pictures from that, as well.

Hey, we have that loom! That's for inkle-band weaving, but can be set up for card weaving. :)

Somewhere in my LJ I have pictures of inkle-weaving. Somewhere. Damned if I know where. I will find it later

The belt I'm wearing in the sleeves picture was made by that little loom and is a simple inkle band :-)
I don't know how to do card weaving yet (I'm a noob).
