Jul. 6th, 2008 03:05 pmLast Friday, I went on a impromptu expedition to Yorkville with
commanderteddog. She wanted to show me some unusual mall architecture, and, hey, who am I pass that up? The mall in question was significant in that it still showed some real signs of life, yet was clearly operating on the edge. It had been updated in sections, and the demarcation lines between mall architecture of the 70s, 80s, and 90s was very sharp.

Basement signage... very basic fonts and graphics.

First floor signage... a message from the future!

Only in the 70s would an artist have dared to make a tile mosaic of the sun, using mostly shades of brown...

This was around the corner from that future-glowy-sign.
Following this, we took a stroll over to see the Judith Merrill Science Fiction Collection, at the Toronto Library.

An odd alleywall shortcut, full of movie theater ads.

The library is flanked by a pair of bronze gryphons...

...who have various animals tangled in their grasp!

The current theme at the collection is "fairies." I remembered this book cover, even though I've never read the book itself.
Last Saturday, we attended a small gathering for
doc_mystery's 42nd birthday, where I learned by Wii Fit "age" is several years higher than my actual age. There were some fantastic steaks, and we all played a round of
velvetpage's new game, Pompeii. Naturally, I took photos of the game, and not the people.

Ah, Pompeii! Thriving metropolis, comfortable in the shadow of that curiously cone-shaped mountain!

Several turns later...
velvetpage won, BTW.
And, of course, this past week it was Canada Day!
