I'm seeing reports that Robert Asprin has died.

I read the Myth Books a lot growing up, and they influenced a lot of my (bad) fantasy writing and my early sword and sorcery RPG adventures.

He was also the editor of the acclaimed shared fantasy setting, Thieves' World for the first 12 book.

I was a fan of the Myth series too. Read them during my funny-fantasy phase (Xanth and Myth, depending on what mood I was in... somehow I missed out on the quality of Pratchett during this time!)

Sad. Looks like he and his co-writer were Guests of Honor at an event this weekend, that's going to be a bit of a damper.

Now I have more of my summer reading list filled out. The Myth series was one of my favorite series growing up. That and Thieves World. I'm glad he got back to writing before he died.

In honour of Mr Asprin I went out and bought two of his books. I have to date, as far as I know...all the myth series. I always really enjoyed his books.

I remember reading a report of the great author's nights they'd have at some bar, discussing plot lines and the like. It always sounded like so much fun.

Likewise, even if I wasn't crazy about the most recent ones.

I always did as well, though I found some of the later MYTH books to be rough going at times.

The world is a little less funny.

I loved the Myth books, though as many have commented they went downhill as they went on. This is true of any series that I can think of though and not to be held against him.
