I made The Slans, loosely based on the inhabitants of the Slan Shack. I gave them really high "playfulness," "sloppy," "outgoing" and "grouchy" meters. Stan's motivation is Knowledge. Ann's motivation is pleasure.

I tried it solo at first, with just Stan. Stan invited 8 people to his house. 1 person showed up. Just before she arrived Stan fell asleep in front of his toilet and woke up when he peed himself.

He then served baloney sandwiches on the floor because all his counters were covered with rancid energy drink cans. Then, his guest played chess by herself. Stan went to bed.

Playing with Claire is fun, because she likes having the Sim use the telephone. One of the reaons Stan collapsed in front of the toilet was that she'd made Stan call the paperboy at 1 AM and argue about politics.

I tried again with Stan and Ann, and things went better, mostly because I knew the interface. Still, I'd lose track of one Slan while managing the other. So, there were so odd moments, Like when Ann was in her underwear, slow dancing with a female neighbour on the front lawn at 1 AM, while Stan was sitting dejectedly on the curb eating old pizza. Then Ann went to bed, and Stan played video games next to her head.

I'm not sure whether I like this game or not, yet....

The funeral for Erin's grandfather was today. It was a large event, and I met dozens of people I've not seen in many years, folks from the church I attended as a child. The ceremony and visitation sparked a lot of thoughts, which I hope eventually to write down in some coherent way.

As the casket was loaded into the hearse, retired and current members of the Canadian Staff Band (Erin's grandfather was a founding member) pounded out the Salvation Army march, Montreal Citadel. Erin's grandfather, uncle, father, and several members of her family played the same march at our wedding, on kazoos.

Tomorrow, of course, is Halloween. This pumpkin isn't going to carve itself.
