Pyat gets a shiner

Working from home today - just dropped Elizabeth off at school. While getting back into the car, I decided to bash the corner of my left eye firmly against the top edge of the car door.

What? You think I'm uncoordinated enough to do that by accident? Nonsense!

It bled copiously enough that I thought my eyesocket was bleeding for a minute or two. :(


Hey, here's a photo! I actually took this for self-reference in the car, since I couldn't really see anything in the mirror with my glasses off.

One of the staff at the camp LIT program I went to when I was 16 had a similar injury partway through our canoe trip. She was the bottom one of two people trying to maneuver a canoe up over a ledge when we were stopping to cam, and the canoe slipped and hit her just over an eye.

I think you should make up a dramatic story abut how you got it. Like you were attacked by pirates and had to gallantly defend your family from them. Something like that.

Also, there's manymany blood vessels in yer face 'n' scalp, which is why head wounds bleed so copiously.

In my professional opinion: it may not need stitches, but a bit of surgical tape just to oppose the edges would be a good idea (I think you may be able to get that at a drugstore). Otherwise, it'll heal by secondary intention and you may have a scar left.

Of course, you may want a scar -- good conversation piece and handy on Pirate Day.
