Mmm. Cadillacs.

But the Rev. C. Thomas Anderson, senior pastor of the Living Word Bible Church in Mesa, Arizona, preaches a version of the Christmas story that says baby Jesus wasn't so poor after all.

"Mary and Joseph took a Cadillac to get to Bethlehem because the finest transportation of their day was a donkey," says Anderson. "Poor people ate their donkey. Only the wealthy used it as transportation.""

Uh... so the poor people ate their Cadillacs? No wonder they stayed poor. Oh, prosperity gospel. You are so silly.

Not so silly - [livejournal.com profile] velvetpage's first Christmas pudding of the year, served out at my mom and dad's house last night.

Stockings hung by the non-functional former fireplace with care!

Happy kids!

And a panful of pea-meal bacon!

Gotta love the ones who try to defend their questionable lifestyles.

Yyyyyyeah. If the poor folk slaughtered all their donkeys, they wouldn't have donkeys in the first place. People in VERY dire straits might have had to kill all their livestock, but even I know enough about animal husbandry to know that they wouldn't do so if they could possibly avoid it - because once that last animal is gone, the family might starve without a burden beast to help with the work...

Pea-meal bacon? How does that work?

May the rest of the season be as happy for you as these portions of it look to have been!

The United States is full of utterly reprehensible people.

However, you are safely in Canada, and have a wonderful family, and that makes me very happy.

Additionally, it occurs to me that equids neither chew their cud nor do they have cloven hooves - it's in Leviticus. Joseph and Mary would not have eaten a donkey and neither would anyone else in their society. Preacher man doesn't know the word of the law, and he certainly doesn't know the spirit of it.

The guy is just an all-round moron, I think.

Reminds me of a favorite story of my mother about my third Christmas and the reverend's story about Jesus's birth to the youth section of the Christmas service.

If you want, I can tell the full story sometime. But the long story short had my response had my very pregnant mother trying to crawl out of the church under the pew. n_n
