Where the Beach has No Name

It was bright, warm day and April, and the clocks were striking thirteen...

[livejournal.com profile] commanderteddog works very close to my office. Typically, this means we go for walks and lunch once a week or so. However, in the interests of budget and health, we have devised a list of Toronto places within 2 kilometres of our respective offices. Instead of meeting for lunch, we'll walk to one of these places, getting in a good ramble and saving money.

Today, we went to the Artificial Beach.

Glorious, isn't it?

It's right across from Toronto Island Airport.

And a marine fire station! "Quick, the lake is aflame!"

It's also close to some tall ships we were intending to visit as separate lunchtime adventures.

The fire-fighting boat is named for a Canadian revolutionary.

The other side of the beach. In summer, they put out Muskoka chairs.

Another tall(ish) ship.

The Natrel-Bot, fighting crime at the docks.

Or maybe just ice cream.

I like teddog's new haircut, it frames her face sweetly :)

[identity profile] pyat.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
:) Agreed.

I'm sorry, but I like our beaches more. :)

(hey, it's all we got down here, gotta flaunt it!)

[identity profile] pyat.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Your beaches have sharks!

[identity profile] bandersnitch.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
And thus the basis for the appeal!

[identity profile] dagoski.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Kawabunga, dude! Next time I go to Toronto, I am so strapping my long board to the car roof.

Seriously, though, I like that little beach. You can just sit down, watch the lake and let go for a bit.

I was expecting to be very lame and silly, but once you're actually there... it's sunny, warm, with a nice breeze from the lake. It's not as good as a beach, but it's nicer than a concrete park.

[identity profile] anidada.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
The Natrel box is bigger on the inside.

[identity profile] pyat.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
The guy from the "12-gallon Axe" ad comes busting out of there every so often to spray people with milk.

If you're lucky.

GAAAAAAAAAAAH! *runs away*

[identity profile] zenten.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
That first picture looks like CGI to me, so I was like "Why's [livejournal.com profile] pyat having lunch in Second Life?"

[identity profile] pyat.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Well, after this we stumbled into the Gorean area, and things got ugly.

So... do you skip lunch on these trips, or bring something with you and eat on the go? Thanks for posting the photos, in any case, I get to see parts of the city I didn't know about since I don't live there any more!

[identity profile] pyat.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Neither! We wolf down lunch at our desks :)

[identity profile] relee.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Is the lake by Toronto still flamable? I thought they were cleaning it up.

[identity profile] pyat.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Only on really hot days!

[identity profile] zenten.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
*They* meaning the zebra mussels of course :)

[identity profile] kisekileia.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, I had no idea that beach was there!

[identity profile] pyat.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
They sell ice cream! Well, nearby.

[identity profile] hossblacksilver.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
I decided to googlemap it, I think I might have found it, though I could be wrong.

[identity profile] pyat.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It's on Queen's Quay.
