Zebra-Taur in a Rainbow Wig?

I had some idle time this afternoon, so I set up DOSbox on the Aspire One (henceforth known by its proper name, "Portable Mousehold"), and downloaded Ultima VI. This is a game I've not played since 1991, when it replaced The Magic Candle as my number #1 computer fantasy game / time-burglar.

Oh, but what fun I'd have! Poisoning Lord British, stealing barrels of gunpowder and blowing up bee hives, or spending days on my quest to eat every stick of butter in the kingdom!

There was also a quest of some kind. Something to do with saving the world. I don't know. I certainly ate a lot of butter, anyway.

It's running smoothly on the Portable Mousehold. If anything, the compact 8.9" screen makes it look better than it did on my old 17" Hyundai CRT. While watching the opening graphics, I did a bit of a double-take. The hero - the character that you are controlling - starts the game in the real world, watching cable. Hanging on the wall is a painting of a half-naked "Zebrataur" woman in a loose denim jacket, with rainbow hair, leaning on a lamp post.

Frankly, the story behind that painting is probably more interesting than all that blah about Gargoyles taking over the Shrines of Virtue. I demand a video game dedicated to rainbow-haired zebra hookers!

The hero is clearly a furry with a thing for half-naked zebrataur women. *shrugs* I've seen worse.

Weirdos!

DOSbox takes the concept of "win" and redefines it.

I've had so much fun in old DOS games thanks to that wonderful piece of software.

I think I'm going to have to flee temptation and avoid visiting the site, if I want to get any work done!

Ultima VI? Who the heck loves Ultima VI? That's a first for me. ^.^;;

Most people I run into loved Ultima IV, or Ultima VII, but I've never seen someone proclaim their love of Ultima VI before. That's wild. ^.^

Ultima VI is my favorite still, particularly the half sequel "The Serpent Isle" though it kinda sucks that they killed of Dupre. Not that it stopped them from bringing him back in Ultima Online...

Killed OFF Dupre. ^.^;;

I suspect that's Dr. Cat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Cat)'s handiwork.

I forgot he was involved with that! But I remember now I "met" him, in game... and then later recognized him on Furc.

He lives around an hour south of me. *snrk*

I'm sensing a rooooooooad trip. To solve the mystery of the Zebra Girl Stripper!

*giggle*

I had this friend. Obsessed with the Ultima series. His computer room looked ALMOST EXACTLY like the scroll of the computer desk in Ultima VII. It was creepy and not-planned.

Bizarre... reminds me a bit of Quest for Glory III.

DOSbox is wonderful! Especially for fuddy-duddies like me who like playing old games. Along with ScummVM, another very useful emulator. What was the last thing I played with DOSbox... Death Gate, I think.

Magic Candle? That's a new one on me. (looks it up) Ah, ok. I never delved much into computer RPGs back in the day. I tried Wizardry VI and Ultima Underworld 'cause they'd been left on computers given to me as gifts - I finished them, but more out of stubbornness than actually enjoying them.

When I discovered DOSbox, I tried out UU2 and played through a big chunk of Betrayal at Krondor, cut short by my hard drive crashing. I enjoyed those a lot more! And more recently some of the RPGs at Amaranth Games (http://www.amaranthia.com/), which are ok but involve a lot of grind for leveling up.

May your earnest butter-eating continue! :)

Thats either a prostitute Zebrataur or a stripper. If its a stripper I find it greatly disturbing, what kind of pole dance could she possibly provide?! I think she would be pretty good at a donkey show though.

...what kind of pole dance could she possibly provide?!

Some very advanced dressage techniques, perhaps!
