So, it seems the information that Palin didn't know Africa was a continent, despite being widely reported and repeated by McCain campaign folks, was actually a joke from a fake blog.

So... way to go, McCain and Palin campaign? I have no idea how to process this information.

Edit: I suspect my memory of hearing campaign staff talking about the Africa thing is based on my memories of the FOX news report, which was false.

If I'd bothered to read the whole thing, I'd have seen that the hoax was in the claimed ID of the "leaker", not the leaked info itself.

So, according to FOX news, McCain aides did, indeed say that Palin did not know Africa was a continent. A Palin aide has gone so far as to blame it on a specific misunderstanding.
