Pyat amongst the Fair Folk

It is good to be home. [livejournal.com profile] velvetpage has been puttering about in the garden, which grew impressively in our absence. The girls seem pleased to be back, as well, though they miss their Aunt and Uncle (and Disneyland).

This weekend we ventured to Guelph to attend the Fairy Fest. This was sort of like a Renaissance Faire, except without any reference to historical accuracy at all. I quite liked it. It was a compact event, affordable, and very kid friendly. We met [livejournal.com profile] catsarah and [livejournal.com profile] sassy_fae there, and it was good to see both of them after our long sojourn amonst the Southrons.

Elizabeth's Minnie Mouse hat and matching red wings garnered the attention of the Queen of the Unseelie Court, and her handmaidens. They wondered if she were a "mouse fairy."

[livejournal.com profile] velvetpage bought some jewelry, and fantasy art prints from [livejournal.com profile] hbruton. I bought Elizabeth some wings, and myself a giant pickle.

Oh... so that explains it.

So, [livejournal.com profile] velvetpage and I are watching There Will Be Blood tonight, and as I'm watching, I'm thinking it's odd that I should be watching this movie while reading a book set in the same time period.

And I'm thinking, hmm, I should watch for common thematic elements and maybe use them as inspiration for a game. And I'm thinking, "Gosh, this reminds me strongly of that book I'm reading."

And so I wiki the film, and find out that the novel I'm reading, The Jungle, is by the same author as the book that was the basis of the film - Upton Sinclair. Doh.
